The finale of The Block was a ratings success and crushed The X Factor

CHANNEL 9’s decision to screen just one season of The Block in 2016 has paid off with massive ratings for last night’s finale.
The Block — Winner Announced averaged a whopping 2.104 million viewers across Australia’s five capital cities.
Not only is the result a big jump up from last year’s Blocktagon finale which averaged 1.812 million but it smashed the record previously set by its biggest competitor over at Seven.

Nine’s renovation show, hosted by Scott Cam, bettered the ratings for this year’s My Kitchen Rules — Winner Announced which averaged 1.969 million, making it the highest rating non-sports program of the year.
High school sweethearts Karlie Cicero and Will Bethune were top of The Block when their apartment sold for $2.6 million, an enormous $715,000 over reserve.
That was enough to secure the Queensland couple the grand prize of $100,000 taking them to $815,000, enough to cover their upcoming wedding and honeymoon and lots more.

The Block crushed Seven’s The X Factor, which averaged a dismal 559,000 viewers. It is hard to see the talent show returning in 2017. It also smashed Ten’s Modern Family (341,000).
The huge ratings for The Block helped 60 Minutes which scored 1.332 million viewers for Liam Bartlett’s interview with Gable Tostee about the death of Tinder date Warriena Wright.
The Block — Grand Final averaged 1.712 million, also well up last year’s Blocktagon Grand Final which averaged 1.579 million.
Nine has confirmed that there will be another series of The Block, its 13th in 2017. Nine is yet to announce a location
